Campfire Light
After that near-death experience..
Rapunzel and Flynn, or it seems now, Eugene, chose a place to set up
for the night. Eugene, gathered firewood, and told Rapunzel just to
wait a minute. She waited patiently, and asked to see his injured
hand, he hesitated for a moment, but agreed. She told him not to
freak out, and then began.
“Flower gleam and glow,
Let your power shine,
Make the clock reverse,
Bring back what once was mine..
Heal what has been hurt,
Change the fates design,
Save what has been lost,
Bring back what once was mine..
What once was mine...”
Rapunzel finished, and nervously opened her eyes, to find a shocked
Flynn Rider. He unwrapped the golden strands around his hand, and saw
no sign of an injury.
“Ah... eh..” He squeaked. “Don't freak out!” Rapunzel
pleaded, although this was daily for her and Gothel, she knew that
this wasn't the case for her guide.
“I'm not freaking out are you freaking out? No, I'm just interested
in your hair and the magical qualities it possesses, and how long has
it been doing that exactly?” He let out in one breath, putting his
hands under his arms, obviously trying to show he wasn't freaking
out. But failed.
“Uh.. forever, I guess?” Rapunzel answered. “Mother said, that
when I was a baby, people tried to cut it and take it for themselves.
But, once it's cut, it turns brown and loses it power. That's why
mother never let me.. That's why I never left, and.. hmm..” She was
still having mixed feelings about leaving. She was happy she did, she
got to see the forest, let her feet touch the ground, she had Eugene
to thank for that. But she felt wrong to leave mother.
“That's why you never left that tower..” Eugene finished. “And
you're still going to go back?” He asked, his face no longer in
shock but it seemed.. sincere, caring, the expression he seemed to
have almost forgotten.
“No.” Rapunzel said firmly. “Yes? Ugh.. it's complicated.”
She had her head in her hands, and Pascal, her chameleon friend,
tried to comfort her by her feet. She realized that it would be
better to drop the subject, she wanted to know more about her
companion anyway.
“So, Eugene Fitzherbert, huh?” Rapunzel said, taking her hair out
of her eyes. “Yeah, the story of poor orphan Eugene Fitzherbert is,
well it's sort of a downer.” He said. Rapunzel only scooted closer,
he chuckled and started telling her his past.
“There was this book, a book I read to all the younger kids. The
Tales of Flynnagan Rider! Swashbuckling rouge, richest man alive, not
bad with the ladies either, nothing he'd ever brag about of course.”
He said, making Rapunzel giggle.
“Was he a thief too?” Rapunzel asked, this question caught Eugene
off guard, he was trying to go back and remember where she had heard
or seen that. ' The Snuggly Duckling ' he thought to himself.
“Well, no, he had all the money in the world. He could do whatever
he wanted to do, go anywhere he wanted to go. And.. and for a kid,
with nothing, it just seemed like the better option.” He felt
Rapunzel's sincere gaze, and decided to just try to make this funny.
“You can't tell anyone about this okay? It would ruin my
reputation.” He said, flashing a somewhat grin. “Ah, we wouldn't
want that.” Rapunzel teased. “Well a fake reputation is all a man
has.” He replied, ending with a chuckle. Rapunzel did as well, but
then...
Their eyes met, and Eugene knew if he continued, he
would probably let something else slip. He wasn't planning on telling
her anymore. For now. 'Excuses.. excuses.. dying fire!' he thought,
getting up from the log he said, “I.. I should go get some more
firewood..”
“Hey..” Rapunzel started, Eugene usually doesn't turn around when
someone is talking to him. But hey, it's “Blondie”.
“Just for the record, I like Eugene Fitzherbert, much better than
Flynn Rider.” She stated. 'What? I even like Flynn Rider better
than.. me.' He said to himself, but decided to let it go.
“Well then, you'd be the first, but thank you.” He replied,
turning back around, and looked at his hand. 'Hmm.. would this give
me superhuman strength in my hand? Eh, I'll ask Blondie when I get
back.'
THE END.
AN: This was... not the best... but it's probably the only one I have
worth reading. By the way, sorry if I got any of the lines wrong!
